Workshop: Insights of Recent Research about the Development of Salafi-Jihadism in the MENA Region and Entry Points for Conflict Transformation

March 9, 2020

*This event is by invitation only*

The Berghof Foundation in cooperation with the AHRC’s Open Research Initiative (OWRI) and al-Sabah Programme – Durham University, with support from the Political Settlements Research Programme (PSRP), are hosting a workshop on “Insights of Recent Research about the Development of Salafi-Jihadism in the MENA Region and Entry Points for Conflict Transformation.”

The key objectives of the workshop are threefold:

  • Sharing insights of recent analysis about Salafi-Jihadism in the MENA region, collecting feedback and developing avenues for future research
  • Providing a forum for exchange between academics and practitioners from MENA and Europe on the mobilization and demobilization dynamics of Salafi-Jihadi armed groups
  • Comparing experiences and lessons learned from practical approaches to strengthen community resilience and identifying entry points for conflict transformation

Researchers and practitioners from Lebanon, MENA and Europe will give short inputs to present their research or share insights from their practical work followed by interactive discussions.

Among the researchers in attendance, PSRP’s Juline Beaujouan will be presenting her research on Islamic State’s discourse in an attempt to deconstruct the myth of Daesh and to highlight the potential for engagement through dialogue.
