Emerging evidence from the ESRC-DfID Political Settlements Research Programme\u2019<\/li>\n<li><strong>Michelle Rouse<\/strong>, \u2018Implementing the Good Friday Agreement: Understanding Institutional Change through Crisis and Attrition\u2019<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jessica Doyle<\/strong>, \u2018Transforming responses to intimate partner violence in a post-conflict environment: The case of Northern Ireland\u2019<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pilar Domingo and Alina Rocha Menocal<\/strong>, \u2018Institutional change, Gender Justice and Conflict in Colombia\u2019<\/li>\n<li><strong>Catherine O\u2019Rourke<\/strong>, \u2018International Law Norms for Gender Equality and Domestic Processes of Institutional Change: When and How the International May Matter\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Chair: <strong>Eilish Rooney<\/strong>, Ulster University<\/p>\n<p><strong>Understanding the Role of Political Settlements in Shaping the Opportunities for Progressive Institutional Change in Conflict-to-Peace Transitions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The panel draws together ongoing research and preliminary findings from the DFID-funded Political Settlements Research Programme, in order to explore how political settlements \u2013 elite level agreements about the exercise of power \u2013 can be leveraged analytically and practically to build more stable and gender-inclusive institutions. The panel will adopt an overt focus on institutional change in the context of conflict-to-peace transitions. The discussion will be informed by macro large-N analysis of peace agreement provision globally for institutional change (Mackay), small-N comparative case study analysis of the role of international legal norms for gender equality on domestic processes of institutional change (O\u2019Rourke), and specific case study analysis of institutional change in Northern Ireland political institutions (Rouse) and criminal justice responses to gender-based violence (Doyle). The panel will also consider findings from the Development Leadership Programme on Colombia (Domingo and Rocha Menocal). The panel aims to advance a productive interface between FI and gendered political settlements analysis, by asking what an FI perspective can bring to political settlements, and what political
