SUMMARY:PSRP Researchers Presenting: Women Rising
DESCRIPTION:As the final event in the 1916 centenary year celebrations in Washington DC\, the Irish Embassy are hosting a seminar entitled ‘Women Rising’. It aims to address both the role of Irish women in the 1916 Rising\, and the role that Ireland plays today in recognising the importance of women in peace and security worldwide\, through work on UN Resolution 1325. The symposium will comprise two panels addressing these dual issues.\n\n\nPSRP Researchers Dr Catherine O’Rourke and Dr Aisling Swaine will participate in and speak at the second panel on the role that Ireland plays today in terms of promoting the role of women in peace processes\, within the overall rubric of UN Resolution 1325. Dr O’Rourke is currently serving as independent academic expert to our to the Irish government’s 1325 Oversight Group.  Dr Swaine\, who is at George Washington University\, will be moderating the discussion.\n\n\nThe Ambassador of Ireland in the U.S.\,. Anne Anderson\, will be in attendance throughout. The three hour symposium will be followed by a reception at the Embassy.\n\n\nThis is closed event\, invitation-only.
