SUMMARY:View on Africa: between conflict and peace in South Sudan
DESCRIPTION:This week\, the Institute for Security Studies’ View on Africa will discuss the events and developments following the most recently-signed peace agreement between the South Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) and the SPLM-IO (SPLM-in-Opposition).  It will be presented by Dr Nelson Alusala\, who has recently returned from Upper Nile\, Unity and Northern Bahr el Ghazal in South Sudan. \nBetween conflict and peace in South Sudan (source: ISS) \nThe events that have followed the controversial peace agreement between the South Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) and the SPLM-IO (SPLM-in-Opposition) portray a confusing picture of the country’s future. Both sides are violating the peace deal and President Salva Kiir has unilaterally proposed the creation of 18 new states. \nThe mandate of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) has been extended by two months as Uganda declares withdrawal of all its forces by 1 November 2015\, in line with the peace agreement. What do these developments mean for South Sudan’s future? \n  \nThe briefing can be attended online via VoiceBoxer: Details and VoiceBoxer access.  \n  \n
