SUMMARY:Gender\, Violence and Conflict Seminar
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nInternational Women’s Day 2016 Event:\nGender\, Violence and Conflict Seminar\nMarch 8th\, 2016\n4:30-6:00\nTRISS Seminar Room\, Room C6.002\, Arts Building\, Trinity College DublinThe Gender Study Group of the Development Studies Association of Ireland and the Trinity International Development Initiative (TIDI) are hosting a seminar on Gender\, Violence and Conflict to mark International Women’s Day 2016. \nThe role of gender and gender-based violence in contexts of conflict and instability is often examined in a limited way\, for instance only in relation to sexual violence perpetrated by armed forces or the impact of the forced migration of women and children. In this seminar we bring together researchers working on issues of gender and conflict in varied development contexts\, from Northern Ireland to Kenya to Mexico. The seminar will examine issues including\, the role of violent masculinities in shaping conflicts and instability\, gender and state violence\, and gender identities and dynamics within peace-building and post-conflict development. \nSpeakers:\nDr. Catherine O’Rourke\, Transitional Justice Institute\, University of Ulster\nDr. Caroline Munyi\, The Confederal School of Religions\, Peace Studies and Theology\nTrinity College\, Dublin\nDr. Theresa O’Keefe\, Equality Studies Centre\, UCD\, Dublin \nAll are welcome to attend this free event.\nPlease RSVP to tidi@tcd.ie \nThe event will also be live-streamed. \n\nTo watch the event remotely\, please visit the DSAI Website at 16:30 on March 8th March http://www.dsaireland.org/\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLive-screening at NUI Galway \n4:30-6:00\nILAS Centre G008 \nA live-screening of the event and reception will be held at NUI Galway from 4:30- 6:00 at G008\, ILAS Centre\, supported by the Centre for Global Women’s Studies at NUI Galway.
